Our team just arrived in Ecuador and we are already loving it here!! It has truly been a blessing and a joy to experience this new country. We are working with a foundation that works specifically with helping girls who have endured physical and sexual abuse.
Our role so far has been mainly to assist in activities and build relationships with each of the girls. Here at the foundation the girls are involved in many different activities that help equip them for a bright future. The minute these girls get to be here they get a fresh start and a chance to redefine their future. They do many activities that help with the healing process. Some of thee activities are jiu jitsu, horse back riding, English lessons, art classes, group therapy, devotional time, cooking class, sewing, and aerobics.
All the girls at this ministry are roughly between twelve and seventeen, over half of them have children who live on base with them. The ones with children spend so much of their day learning how to be a mom, and learning how to care for their baby. It has already touched my heart to see their smiles and joy to learn new activities and life skills. All the things they learn are helping them become equipped for what life looks like when they leave this ministry’s care. Each day these girls are restoring the pieces of their life that were stolen from them. I am amazing by the strength and the joy these girls carry in the midst of immense pain and suffering. My heart both aches for what they endured but also rejoices with them for the gift of freedom they are walking in now.
Be praying for the girls to discover the true love of God and who he really is. There is a mixture of both girls who believe in Jesus and some who are reluctant to engage in faith. This foundation is a Christian ministry, and we have gotten the opportunity to explicitly talk and discuss Christianity with the girls in both small and large groups. Be praying that our devotional time is intentional and impactful for each girl; that it is not us talking but the Holy Spirit speaking through us to meet the spiritual needs of the girls. Be praying for healing and safety for each girl, and for the children who live on the foundation with their young mothers.
